Police officer injured after during Canton traffic stop, driver facing charges

broken wrist injury

CANTON, MA – A man from Boston dragged a Massachusetts State Trooper while attempting to flee a traffic stop, according to the Norwood Wicked Local.

The incident happened at Exit 11 of I-95 at 12:23 a.m., when an officer attempted to pull over Whaneller Vizcaino, 31. Believing the vehicle contained marijuana, the trooper attempted to open the door. But Vizcaino resisted, and attempted to flee the scene. The officer’s hand got caught in the doorway and he was dragged for a short distance, causing unspecified injuries.

Vizcaino proceeded down Route 95 at a high rate of speed, before he lost control of the vehicle and crashed. He then took off on foot, and reportedly spent multiple hours in the woods, hiding from police. He was arrested in Sharon at about 8:45 a.m.

Vizcaino is facing multiple charges, including assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, assault and battery on an officer of the peace, driving while under the influence of drugs, negligent driving, and possession with intent to distribute.

He is being held on a $5,000 bail.
